Position: Technical Architect-JAVA
LOCATION: Chennai
Purpose of the Role: Why does this job/ role exist, what value does it add?
• To provide technical governance and leadership across programmes in order to make optimum use of technology toolsets, frameworks and re-use of internally developed components, leading to successful deliveries
Activities: What does the jobholder have to do?
• To ensure consistency of technology usage in projects, by continuously reviewing existing toolsets and code, suggesting re-use of components and ensuring the design of new components allows for potential reuse.
• To provide direction on technology use and technology menus, by performing research into new technologies, liaising with technology providers (including internal), establishing all processes required for the adoption of any new technologies.
• To be responsible for and drive the technical architecture and roadmap for the channels program
• To continuously improve the technical competency across programmes and departments, by establishing relevant training, actively mentoring technologists and driving implementation of best practices and adherence of standards.
• To be responsible for hiring technically talented and capable individuals by ensuring through interview processes and interviews.
• Owning the end to end solution from a technical perspective; provide estimates for planning and scoping purposes Write technical proposals for new projects;
• Participate in high level design reviews
• Ensure that development complies with architectural standards as set by Technical Integration and Architecture Assurance and meets ‘operational principles’.
• Provide input to line Managers in respect of individuals’ technical performance
Key deliverables: What are the key outcomes and what does the jobholder have to produce (objectives)?
• End to end high level solution approach & design for large programmes
• Inputs to Programme Manager for end to end project/programme estimates Technical/ Domain leadership to the team
• Responsible for preparing and maintaining the development process, practices and standards for the project/programmes
• Publishes paper on System Road maps/ Technology improvements/ upcoming technologies
• Continuous improvement in the development process to ensure higher efficiency
Scope of Role: What decision is the job/ role responsible for?
• Owning end to end Architecture, Design of the programme
• Ensures high quality and zero defect technical deliveries
• Ensure right level of technology assessment is provided for Business changes
People Management: What are the key responsibilities of the job/ role?
• This role will not be responsible for people management but for technical direction and mentoring.
Financial Management: What are the key responsibilities of the job/ role?
• Role should display commercial awareness when proposing architectural solutions
• Provide high quality /accurate estimations to go into financial planning
Person Specification
Essential Experience: What previous experience is required to do this job/role?
• 8+ years in IT and Technical architect for at least 2 years in Java projects of large size
• Should have designed, developed and implemented at least 2 large Java projects from end to end
• Experience in providing Architecture direction, Logical and Physical view, principles, Security etc Experience in various project methodology like RUP, SCRUM, XP
• Experience in portal technology preferably on Websphere Portal platform
• Excellent knowledge in Java based architecture and design Hands on OO design, UML and Design pattern experience
• Hands on architecting experience in J2EE 1.4 using SOA, Websphere Portal 6.0, Websphere BPM technologies/process orchestration using Chordiant
• Hands on experience in object modelling, design using structured notation like UML and RUP methodology
• Knowledge, experience of back end integration using CICS 3.1 on mainframe platform
• Should be able to take technical decisions in the project eg Infrastructure selection, Software and tool selection, performance benchmarks etc.
• Must be able to influence senior stake holders in acheiving a win win situation
• Hands on experience on Java, J2EE - JSP, Servlets, EJB, XML, JDBC, JMS, Struts, Springs, SqlJ
• In depth knowledge of various Java/J2EE design patterns, Frameworks like Spring, Struts etc
• Experience of multi-stream development environment and infrastructure
• Excellent communication, presentation skills Desirable:
• Experience of delivering projects in financial services industry
• Experience in latest technology trends like SOA, Web 2.0, Agile
• Certification in enterprise architecture like TOGAF
